How the market works
Scoring and market rules
MatchupMarket uses play money. A dollar shown here is not redeemable cash.
Prices and seasons
Opening prices use projected fantasy points: $0.10 per point for NBA and $1 per point for NFL and MLB. During the season, earned points replace the used portion of that projection; recent performance and trading pressure also affect the quote. Buying and covering push prices up; selling and shorting push them down. Your execution includes its own price impact.
Season totals include regular-season games and playoffs. A missed team game can reduce remaining opportunity even when a player scores zero. A bye is not a played game. Starting pitchers use pitching appearances rather than every team game. Live figures are provisional and may be corrected.
Each sport closes separately after its final results are reviewed. Trading remains closed during settlement and reset. Historical results are archived before the following season opens.
Fantasy scoring
| Sport | Points |
|---|---|
| NFL · full PPR | Passing yards ÷ 25; passing TD +4; interception −2; rushing/receiving yards ÷ 10; rushing/receiving TD +6; reception +1; lost fumble −2; actual kicking points +1 each. |
| MLB · batting | Single +1; double +2; triple +3; home run +4; run +1; RBI +1; walk +1; stolen base +2; strikeout −0.25. |
| MLB · pitching | Inning +3 (one out is one-third inning); strikeout +1; win +5; save +5; earned run −2; hit allowed −0.25; walk −0.5; loss −2. Two-way players receive batting plus pitching points. |
| NBA | Point +1; rebound +1.2; assist +1.5; steal +3; block +3; turnover −1. |
Other sports remain subject to their published launch rules; do not assume the scoring of one sport applies to another.
Longs, shorts, and final payout
A long NBA share pays $0.10 for each final fantasy point (100 points pays $10). NFL and MLB shares pay $1 per point. Buy one share for $100 and settle at 120 points: the final credit is $120, a $20 gain before any disclosed fees.
A short requires cash collateral when opened. Closing or settling returns twice its remaining collateral basis minus the current closing notional. With $100 collateral and an 80-point final value, the credit is $120, a $20 gain. At 120 points, the credit is $80, a $20 loss. The result can be negative if losses exceed collateral; short losses are not capped at the initial amount.
Opening positions are limited to $10,000 per player at execution. The preview shows the maximum amount you can pay or minimum proceeds you can receive. Quotes expire after 90 seconds. A worse price requires a fresh quote. Max actions quote and execute immediately; custom amounts execute from the preview without a confirmation prompt. Retrying the same order returns its original receipt.
Performance and records
All-sports equity combines cash and holdings. Sport rankings attribute that sport's transaction cash flows and current holdings to a common starting bankroll; purchasing another sport does not count as a loss. Administrative corrections and settlement entries remain in your transaction history.
